There are LOTS of hotels in and around Orlando, but not many offer rooms that are specially designed for folks with unique needs.  So, I thought I'd start this series to highlight these particular hotels.

First up, the Embassy Suites Jamaican Court on International Drive offers "Accessible" rooms that are guaranteed when you book (so no need to make a "request" and hope that you get what you need when you show up).

Accessible rooms include:

  • Braille room numbers
  • Braille room service menus
  • Doorbell w/ Audio/Strobe a-lert
  • Lowered bed
  • Lowered light switches
  • Lowered peep hole in door
  • Lowered shelf storage
  • Lowered sink
  • Lowered thermostat controls
  • Lowered toilet
  • Phone - Audio/Vibrate/Strobe
  • Portable shower chairs
  • Rubber shower mats
  • Alarms - Visual Strobe

Located on International Drive (just a block away from the Sand Lake Road intersection, so close access to I-4), the Embassy Suites gets consistently good reviews on TripAdvisor.  They've got a pool, fitness facility, 24 hour security & a game room.

So, check rates & book a room at Embassy Suites Jamaican Court today!

Good idea to detail these out!

Every Embassy Suites that I've stayed in had been very nice with a great breakfast and a cooktail hour in the evenings as well.

cooktail hour? :-D I'm sold!

It looks like many of the Hilton properties (Doubletree, Embassy Suites, etc.) offer these types of rooms -- I'm busy researching!!

Doubletree Guest Suites -- a Downtown Disney hotel -- is another hotel that offers "accessible" suites.

"Each of these suites has a minimum 40-inch clearance on all door ways and between furnishings, making maneuvering easy. Our vanities and closets are constructed to provide convenient access. Each suite is equipped with a strobe-light door, phone and alarm system."

They're an official Downtown Disney resort, so you're close to the action.

We got hot cookies at check in too and great rates... I stayed at the Double Tree Suites in Feb 2004, so it's been a while but the suites were awesome and they had a great morning buffet too and transportation to the parks when I was there and a nice gift shop with Disney merchandise and of course great access to Downtown Disney!.

Wasn't that where we stayed the first night of your birthday trip? I loved it there, LOTS of room.

The only bad thing is that they do not take part in the extra magic hours. I wish they would since the Hilton does!

Came across 2 other Disney-area hotels that offer handicap accessible rooms:

Holiday Inn Lake Buena Vista

Staybridge Suites Orlando/Lake Buena Vista

Both have excellent TripAdvisor review rankings and are located on 535 (Apopka Vineland Road), which is just down from the Downtown Disney entrance. The Holiday Inn offers rooms with a king bed, and Staybridge offers 2 bedroom suites.

Any Mouse-Aid'ers stay at either of these two hotels before?
