I am not happy about this.... We were saving points to take a cruise. Many say that it is not a good use of points but coming up with the money for 3-4 people to take a Disney cruise is not easy.

From DVCNews.com

No points availablity on DCL through Septmber 2011

Disney Cruise Line bookings have always been subject to availability with only a portion of cabin inventory accessible by members wishing to use their points.  But on Friday August 20, Member Services Cast Members informed callers that cruise availability had suddenly gone from limited to nonexistent for all sailings through September 2011.

Multiple calls to Member Services yielded various reasons for these the change with the primary inference being that Disney Cruise Line had prompted the move by slashing the inventory allocated to DVC.

Some Cast Members are reporting that Disney Vacation Club members will no longer be able to convert a cash booking to DVC points.  Frequent cruisers will commonly place a deposit on a future cruise in order to secure onboard re-booking discounts.  Closer to the sailing date, the member will then with through Member Services to pay for all or part of the cruise using DVC points.  This process may be eliminated or severely curtailed in the future.

Member Services is reportedly maintaining a "call list"--similar to a wait list--which is use to contact interested cruisers as availability opens up for cruises between now and September '11.

There is no word on how cruise availabilty may be impacted beyond September 2011.

A Disney Vacation Club spokesperson has not yet responded to a request for comments regarding this development.

From everything I've learned while upping my DVC I.Q., it isn't a smart thing to do at all.

You'd be better served to rent out the points and use the cash.

The key to booking a Disney cruise is to book early...........even if that means booking 1 1/2 yrs. before you sail.  I booked in Dec. 2009 for a June 2011 cruise to get the best possible price.  I made out better booking the cruise this way.  When we looked into rebooking while onboard in May (to take advantage of the booking onboard incentives) we were told that we made out better booking that far in advance.

There are rates that very and I know it's the time of year that can make a big difference. I can get you info and Disney doesn't let anyone discount the cruises more than any other agent, an agent can add on but not subtract below a certain amount. Check with me and I can help you with rates and when to get them. I do agree that points for a cruise is a waste of points if you unless of course if you have nothing else to use them on.

Sherrie, how much do you save when booking on board? Is it worth it to do it on board the ship or would it be the same price booking through the travel agent?

I know Carnival offers an onboard credit if you book on the ship but it is not any cheaper for the cruise. I actually found cheaper cruises than they offered us on board.

But, I know Disney gets more expensive the closer it gets.

Hi all......  I just read this and thought you might like the update !

More DCL cabins just released for 2010, 2011

Late last night we received word that select dates and itineraries for 2010 and 2011 sailings on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are now available for points reservations by Disney Vacation Club members.

A week ago members learned that capacity had been exceeded for DVC points reservations on all Disney Cruise Line voyages through September 2011.  However by working in conjunction with Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club has managed to secure additional capacity on select voyages through September '11.

According to a Disney Vacation Club spokesperson, Member Services is currently contacting individuals who were placed on the cruise "Call List."  Available capacity on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder is also available to all members on a first-come, first-served basis.

Member Services will continue to maintain a Call List (or wait list) for members who are still unable to secure their desired sailing and/or cabin class.  Members on the Call List will be contacted as additional capacity for points bookings is released.

Additional member availability is not expected for sailing dates prior to October 1, 2011 aboard the new Disney Dream cruise ship.  However, later this year Disney Vacation Club will be accepting reservations for the 2011 S.S. Member Cruise aboard the Disney Dream, where more than 1,200 staterooms will be available for booking by DVC members.
