Electronic Devices to communicate in parks

DO you use electronic devices to communicate in Disney parks?

In the past everyone carried two way radios to find others in the parks. Now days everyone has a cell phone from the kids to grandma. Disney even has a way to track wait times in the parks from a cell phone. I know that some folks use their phone as their camera now days. That brings me to the question what kind of electronic devices do you use and how do you use it at Disney?

I have a cell that I used to text others in the park and also as well as the phone to find others. I have never used the two way radios as that just seemed like a pain. So now I wonder before that we just never split up. We would just all go together and ride the rides together. We never had a reason to contact each other inside the parks. My how times have changed. Now I have meets to attend and folks to find and meet up with. Folks want to go on one ride while we are on another.

 How has this affected you???

The first time I went to WDW we used sun dials.... just kidding of course we had progressed to the wrist watch. We used to plan to meet at a certain place and time. Then we graduated to walkie talkies and for those who have used them they were not ideal. Someone tried to get you while you were in a ride or vice versa or a stranger answered. We graduated to texting which is nice b/c someone can be in a ride and you can leave the msg. This is my preferred way of communicating at present.

My daughter does have an Iphone and did use the app for the ride times last Feb. and it was nice but there were several rides where the line times were shorter than the app displayed. By as much as 45 mins. You have to be careful b/c so many of those rely on feed back from users and so there can be a delay and ppl can put in longer times to keep way crowds if you wanted to be sneaky.

I still bring a pocket light to use in the dark when meeting at a parade area w/ crowds. You can't miss that red light stick in the air, it matches the embarrassed look on my kids faces.

I do think that the electronics have improved enough to where you don't have to wait as long to meet up with family and friends....

When we go to the parks, Patti and I are usually hand in hand.

I just give her hand a little squeeze when I want to get her attention.  It works pretty good unless the batteries need changing.

Robert & I got separated in the parks at the end of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party once.  He wanted a Diet Coke, and I sat down on a bench to wait for him to get it.  He didn't realize that I sat down, so he thought I had gone on down Main Street.  Well, it was quite awhile before we found each other again because we had not agreed on a place to meet and I didn't have a cell phone.  He ended up going out to the bus stop looking for me, and I sat on the bench for a long time, and then slowly wondered down Main Street until he came back in looking for me.

So now, we both have cell phones in the park.  We have had trouble with reception on occasion, but they work for us.  We've also been able to meet up with others using texting.

Same here, I also smack Mike on his butt if he's getting away from me.
