Day 5
Castaway Cay- A second time!
We awake as we are pulling into Castaway Cay. I can’t think of a better way to wake up than to wake up as you are pulling into Castaway Cay. Breakfast is first on the agenda and as soon as that is done we run back to the room to get our stuff and head out to the island. Sherrie has made the decision that we are not going to the family beach and are going to go over to Serenity Bay and snorkel over there. First she wants to do the Pelican Plunge Slide before it gets crowded. Well we are so early that it is not even open yet. After just a few minutes she is on her way as I take pictures. She does the slow slide 2 times and we are on our way to the adult side of the island. Did you know they Castaway Cay has 2 cats that live on the island? We had heard this but never saw one till this trip. We walked right up on a black cat just laying on side the walk way. As we get to the cat I realize that he is licking on 2 ice cubes….. Wow he must have it pretty good. I did see a lady stop and pet him and he just let her. We get to see some of the new areas that they built and I see a new tram stop that has been built. They also built some more shops that have local stuff to sell. We arrive at Serenity Bay and snag a great spot under an umbrella. Soon we are in the water to start our adventure. When you snorkel at the adult beach you do not have to wear a vest and you really don’t need it since the water is not more than chest deep in most places. Last time we were here they had some huge star fish. Well we find some real cool fish and swim with them and around them. We make our way over to where we last saw the star fish and have hit the jackpot. They have a line of about 7 and they are big. Not only are they about a foot and a half across, they are about 8 to 10 inches thick. I never knew star fish were thick. We watch them as they ever so slowly walk across the sand. We run into a lady with a FLIP video camera and Sherrie fell in love with that. It was in an underwater case and she was videoing the stuff under water. I see one of them in our future. After about an hour and a half we come up to the beach for a while. We are getting hungry so we head over and eat. Today they have grilled ribeyes, bbq ribs, roasted chicken, burgers and hot dogs. Plus fresh fruit, salad and then dessert. I saw banana bread and cookies. Then around over on the ice cream side they had 4 kinds of ice cream and one of them was Key Lime Pie…… Oh I had some of that. After the food went down we were back in the water once again to find what we could find. Sherrie had 3 fish following her around because every time she stepped they would swim down and see what she had stirred up. Those fish followed her all day long. We even got to see a small baracuda right up against the beach looking for something to eat. Right about that time a large school of minnows came swimming along the shore line. There were 1000s of them. They had so many that the water was dark because they had so many fish swimming together. We had a ball and spent the whole day out there. We were both getting tired so we headed back. It was after 2:30 which is the longest we have ever spent on the island. We stopped to take some pictures and one of our most favorite pictures was taken right before we got on the ship. We did not get back on board till after 3 pm. Oh I need to note that they had some equipment to pump up sand on to the beach over at Serenity Bay but they were not working that day since the ship was in.
After showers we both wanted a snack and since we had never ordered room service we just had to do that. Sherrie ordered the All Hands on Deck Cheese tray and a Mickey bar. I ordered some mac n cheese and a cheese burger and fries. Well they said 40 minutes but 20 minutes later they were at the door…. The food was great and they brought us 2 Mickey bars. Not bad for a 2 dollar tip. We had already started to pack up and soon it was time for the ship to leave so we ran up on deck 4 to watch us leave. We were soon away from the dock and on our way back to the real world. The workers waved to us with Mickey hands as we left them. Back up to the room and time to get ready for dinner. We sure do eat a lot on this ship. I was not too hungry so I ordered a kids steak and baked potato and Sherrie ordered a steak from the regular menu. Dessert was baked Alaska. After dinner was the show Disney Dreams and this is a must see show for everyone who goes on a cruise. I really enjoy this show and we will always go see it. On the way back to the room we notice lightning outside. We step out on deck 4 and watch it for a while. We head back to the room to pack some more. There is lightning outside of our window. This is on the other side of the ship. We can see it is on both sides of the ship and it is raining real hard over an island in the distance. You can only tell because the lightning is lighting up the sky and then you can see the rain. We run up on deck and it is a little wet but we just pass between the 2 storms but get to see the lightning for hours behind us. After a quick time around the ship it is back to the room to finish packing and put out the luggage.
Our journey has come to an end and as we are sad we will be back on a new ship in one year.
