Pacific Coast Highway  (United States)

This is a question for those in the Disneyland area.   We'll be arriving on a Wednesday and instead of getting park tickets for our arrival day we thought we'd rent a car and drive a portion of the Pacific Coast Highway.  We want to see the Pacific Ocean.  We figure we'll be able to leave the Disneyland Resort area by 12:30.  We will have a dinner ressie at Goofy's Kitchen around 5:30.  We need to know what the best point of entry onto the Pacific Coast Highway would be.  And the best point of exit.  And if this is even doable with that time constraint.  We don't need a lot of time for shopping or anything like that.  We do want to be able to park at one of the beaches to put our feet into the water.  Any help and advice would be appreciated!

We did that when we went to Disneyland, but I don't recall much about it. Hopefully someone else can help.

Re: Pacific Coast Highway  (United States)
Howdy!

We did this on our last trip to Disneyland -- but we took an entire day...

We headed north on Harbor, then north on I-5 up to Hollywood. Took some time to see the "stars" on Hollywood Boulevard, as well as the Chinese theater. Then, we headed out to Santa Barbara via Sunset Blvd (after a stop at Wolfgang Puck's Spago in Beverly Hills) then up the PCH to the outskirts of Malibu. We u-turned and headed back to Santa Barbara. From here, we took I-10 back to I-5 -- this was a nightmare, as we experienced that infamous LA traffic. I can't emphasis how much we HATED that portion of our trip -- we didn't get back to Disneyland till dinner time. :-(

So.... that said, if all you want is a quick trip to the beach, head directly south on Harbor Boulevard. It'll drop you right off at Newport Beach -- which is a stop along the PCH. And, you won't deal with all that traffic...

Good luck!

Thanks everyone!  Newport Beach sounds like a good idea!  Is there good parking available there?

I'm assuming there is parking available, but I don't know for sure.

The person renting us the car asked what our plans were, and suggested that we could head straight down Harbor Boulevard if we wanted to find some good places to eat & have some fun on the beach...

Sooo... when are you planning on visiting DL? What hotel are y'all planning to stay at? :-)

We are visiting in October.  Staying at the Paradise Pier.  You sort of answered another question.  Was gonna ask about fast food along the route to the beach.  We'll be starving by then since we have such early flights and all.  But don't want a sit down type meal since we'll be eating Goofy's Kitchen that evening.
