Many of you know that with my gang I am always waiting to get out of the room and to the parks. From that wake-up call to hitting the park we have taken as long as 4 hours... If we get up at 6 we make it to the park for 10.... does anyone else take that long getting to the park? Of course this is a morning of flat irons and eyelash curlers... I think my girls think they have a chance at wooing Mickey from Minnie... I've threatened to get a cattle prod... and no this does not include breakfast they get to the park hungry. HOw can I get them there faster??

One thing I found that does help is having a breakfast ADR but that fills you up if you want to eat at other places...

I actually ran into the same thing with Bruce's family on or trip in '05. We had ALL gotten up and we thought we were all ready, most of us had eaten in the room. Well we had our backpacks etc and were ready to go when Bruce's dad walks into the room and says, "Okay, I'm ready to go get beakfast" you could hear everyone gasp, so we decided to sit down as a family and find out what each of us wanted. The kids and myself wanted to get to the parks as close to open as possible and Bruce and his mom wanted to be with me and the kids so that left his sister and father and they were both adults. We decided that those of us who wanted to leave early would do so and then those who took longer getting ready would call our cell phones when they got to the park and we'd meet up. It's nice to experience everything together but I'm always up at least a couple of hours before everyone else, so we decided that we'd get an early start and if you wanted to be with us while we did things then be ready, if not, then we'll see you in a bit. I know this wouldn't work for everyone but it worked well for us, nobody felt left out because it was their choice, and nobody felt hurried because again, they had another option.  That probably doesn't help much......

Could any of you take your shower the night before?  That could help.

Also, I don't think I'd allow the flat iron to be packed.

Could you maybe alternate days where you have one day where everyone commits to arriving at the park early and the next day where everyone gets a chance to sleep in/take their time getting ready?

Wow, 4 hours, that would kill me. I get up and get going to the parks within about an hour tops. Granted most of the time I'm by myself so that is easy.  But last trip I went with a group who had 3 little ones, so that took a little more time.  What I did was just went by myself to the parks and then when they got there they called me. They didn't mind and either did I.

I like Rhonda's idea about alternate days though, maybe that could work.

Good Luck.

First of all.... we never have a wake up call or set an alarm.

We are on vacation.

But we are usually up by 7:00 or 8:00 and it takes about an hour and a half to be out the door.   We get to the parks when we get to the parks.  If we don't see all or do all, it gives us an excuse to go back.

My husband is with Pogo.  I am an earlier riser and even earlier when in Disney.  Scott thinks he is on vacation and should be able to sleep.  We are usually out the door between 8 - 9 but I have never seen any of the opening ceremonies.  I just may leave him in the room in December if he sleeps to long.

thanks all... I get the don't leave me since I'm the mom and we do get up early considering we are often out til 12 or 1am  Infact last trip we slept only 9 hours in two nights and 3 days in the parks, at that rate we should sleep on the monorail or in the car.. then where would they plug in the flat iron... bad thing about flat irons is that then you can't go on misty or watery rides b/c it will mess up your hair.... we usually leave that to last... Maybe it will rain and we can use ponytails. The biggest problem is the PHOTOPASS... now they have to be gorgous...

I ask for a wake up call every morning just because it is part of the Disney experience! and We are on a Disney vacation!

I get up first and get in the shower, because I'm slower than everyone else.

We eat breakfast in the room (usually) We are usually out the door in time for the park to open.

If my people need, more sleep: I leave them!  I've done it several times.

We usually have no problems getting up and getting to the parks.

We either bring food that we can snack on at the bus stop waiting (kill 2 birds with one stone!).  When we were at POP, we had the refillable mugs, and since we had to walk through the food court to get to the bus stops, that is where we'd get drinks.  Yes, you had to bring your cup to the parks, but that also was nice, because we could put water in them, or the ice from our lunch cups and it not be a soggy cup mess in the afternoon!

Also, we try to get most showers out of the way the night before, plus it helps you wind down to sleep.

Plus, getting up isn't a big deal when you have an afternoon break planned.  You can come back and rest then, which helps.  Yeah, a couple of hours a taken out for that, but you can get to the parks at opening when there's less people and get more done!

We are with your hubby Lori. Sometimes I'm so off because I work nights that I sleep really late. Then other times I'm up and ready to go because I'm excited and Mike is sleeping late. He also feels that it's vacation and he should get to sleep if he wants.  I do when I'm tired but when I'm up I want to get going

We've only seen one opening ceremony at AK and only because our niece was with us. I would love to see the others. I usually shower the night before and DH in the morning but he's quick. We have snacks in the room to fill us up until we get to a park and then we eat something. It's just the sleeping that delays us. I can sleep alot at home and Mike can't so I hate to rush him though.

Now wait a minute... I remember being on a recent trip with SOMEONE that took longer to get ready than Sherrie and me... Hmm... I wonder who that flat iron using person might be????????

I've done the granola bar thing while I wait for the bus a few times.

Wait...I do that EVERY morning on my commute. For the last 3.5 years. The LAST thing I want to do at WDW is eat granola bars while waiting for the bus.

I have an alternative to the flat-iron thing..... baseball caps!  With sun, wind, rain, mist.. they will take care of it all!  Plus it keeps the sun out of your eyes... just don't forget to hang on to them on Space Mountain.

Last year I wore a headband and that helped; but, it's not me who likes to play dress up in front of the mirror all day. It's motivating the kids. Of course I have one who hates the sun so maybe I should suggest a nice hat w/ a brim... Hmmm I know where I can get a purple hat... I think that will go with anything..
