Wizard World of Harry Potter has been one major success story for Universal/IOA. The new island in IOA helped increased IOA's attendance 36% in 2010 for half a year. Well, now Jaws/Amity has closed in Universal Studios. Rumors point to a Potter expansion. The new expansion is expected to me London/Diagon Alley with a gringott's roller coaster/dark ride style ride, and supposedly would be better than Forbidden Journey, which in and of itself is a great ride. Well, here are some pictures from Amusementparkpics.com showing destruction of the Jaws area.

For anyone who wants to see pictures of Jaws destruction and other construction around Universal, click here for the site:

Orlando Sky Radio's website has some over head shots of the Jaws/Amity area. I won't post the pictures because there are too many, so I'll just provide the link.

Enjoy!

How sad!!! Jaws is one of my favorite movies and having never been to Univeral we've never seen the ride!! I'm sure we would have loved it. "Jaws" is Mike's favorite movie!!

Do you know I"ve never done Jaws either and we were there in 2010 and did both parks. I don't remember why?? I wonder if it was closed at the time. We did everything else. I would love a gringotts coaster. I love the forbidden Journey I did it 4 times when we were there if not 5. I can't believe they would split potter into two parks. I know that it would help spread the potter fans but it's great to have the "Wizarding World"  I am looking forward to going back soon.

We've never been to Universal so we haven't seen it either.

We are not "thrill ride" lovers so we don't think Universal would be worth the ticket or the time away from WDW for us. I do understand the appeal to the younger generation though.

Pogo so glad you understand why we "younger" ones love it.    I do find their rollercoaster rides are a lot more intense than Disney's and some just too intense for me. I did them but found myself wondering why?  The Potter stuff especially the forbidden Journey is not as intense as hulk or some of the others. I love what they did with wizarding world but then I"m a potter fan.

Here is a link to WESH's website with some pictures of Jaws. Universal is really moving fast taking down the Jaws area.

This was posted by a member of another site who goes by the name whylightbulb. He is a contractor and has worked on many Disney projects and Universal projects. He was involved in Forbidden Journey and has many connections inside the industry. But what he posted sounds awesome

Quote:
Universal is creating an ultra immersive experience with a Hogwart's Express train all decked out to look incredibly realistic on the outside and also to include luxuriously appointed cabins on the inside complete with realistic lighting, sounds and special effects for riders to experience as they travel to Diagon Alley that will include an amzing E-ticket ride that will exceed most expectations.

I get more and more excited over the new Harry Potter area every day!

I'm thinking vertical construction will being this summer... Jaws and Amity is gone. Completely gone. Leveling the ground and securing it for construction seems to be the next step. I see no reason why vertical construction won't start in the summer, by fall at the latest. Wizarding World took 2 years to build. Construction started in 2008 and opened in 2010. Is they start construction summer/fall, i see no reason why this land won't open October 2014, to compete directly with a completed Fantasyland. Maybe realistically, first quarter 2015.
