Thanks for publishing my article Beth. I hope it would help some families and as always I can answer any questions anyone might have!
That is an excellent article!
I can't imagine the struggle to breath. I have seen a lot of children in pharmacy picking up meds and the look of anguish on their face when they are having an attack is painful to see.
Thank you for a great article.
I put my two cents in
Excellent article. Mike has asthma and we never go anywhere without his rescue inhaler, especially in Disney World
Christin has had asthma since she was one and in fact the pediatrician said she had pneumonia because you don't get asthma before the age of two. We ended up at a pulmonologist who did confirm it was asthma. I found it hard when she was a toddler b/c you can't really tell when a child is struggling sometimes, I would have to listen to her syllables. Ma(gasp)ma was definitely a sign of respiratory distress. Now as an adult she tends to try to hide the symptoms but I hear it when she talks. WE had an episode at Disney where she left her inhaler in her suitcase, we had checked out and went back not the park, a winter day and the weather changed where it warmed up and was very humid. She would sit on the sidewalk and say give me a minute. The cast members were so great they got us a temporary inhaler and we use caffeine as a stimulant and she takes aderall so we pumped her up w/ stimulants and made it back. It was the UK that triggered her asthma w/ the perfumes at EPCOT. I'm sure the distress comes with anxiety and she says vibrations get her too (there are some rides that trigger it). We usually look for cold air, caffiene and a fragerant vibration free environment. People traveling with teens remember that many think it's not "cool" to have an inhaler but it is nice to breathe... . .
