recent experiences  (United States)

Does anyone have any recent experiences on trips to Disney that they can share? Something about an illness and Disney?  On our last trip to Disney Mike felt like he had gotten something stuck in his eye while we were in the Magic Kingdom.  I tried to help him but he's really very sensitive in the eyes. We were directed to a first aid area that was right next to the Crystal Palace. We never knew it was there. They didn't have any drops but they did have lots of other stuff for illness and injuries. it was good to know. I'm sure I'll pack eye drops next time though.

Re: recent experiences  (United States)

Our experience with first aid wasn't all that recent, but it was very pleasant.  Robert was wearing a knee brace on that trip, and it wore a blister on the back of his calf.  We stopped in the first aid center and they gave him a piece of gauze with some neosporin on it (the blister had busted at that point) and several large bandaids which were perfect (we didn't have anything nearly big enough).  They were very, very nice.

Re: recent experiences  (United States)

My greatest experience was about 27yrs ago but they were awesome. Rhett was a toddler and as little boys will do knocked over his chair while eating by pushing against the table. His chair went back and he split his head open on against the back of the chair. It was the wrought iron chairs outside the pirates...As a young mom I was terffifed and ran to get ice from the service counter they were not only handing me ice but people around were pulling ice out their cups... before I could hurry back to the table the Disney folks were there with a stretcher and they carted him off to the first aid center where they did a neuro exam on him... I felt so comfortable with the assistance and so embarrassed that my son had tipped the chair. They asked me to return every 3 hrs to check him for a concussion and told me not to let him take a nap which is pretty easy when in the park with a 3 year old. I was relieved that we didn't have to leave the park and seek emergency care and we were able to enjoy our vacation with little interruption... (I know some of you have heard this story before)..

These stories are so interesting.  I didn't even know about the place by the Crystal Palace. Any other stories to share?

Re: recent experiences  (United States)

I have the dubious distinction of having called for an ambulance while at Disney.  My youngest, Amy fell on the way back to our room at CBR and hit her head.  I didn't think much of it then, but she was still whiney when we got to our room so I looked and there was an enormous bump on her head.  I would not have been so panicky if I had been at home, so without my hometown pediatrician to calm my fears, I called 911.

An ambulance was dispatched and the front desk got real worried. The front desk called me to ask if I had indeed called 911 and what was the emergency.  I told them my daughter had hit her head on the sidewalk outside and I had dialed.  They kept wanting to ask questions, I could see that they were  afraid that the resort was at fault (some problem with the sidewalk or whatever).  I told them that it was not their fault it was just a child's accident...I had no intention of suing, unless they didn't let me get off the phone and tend to her!

The manager and an assistant came up to the room at that time to continue the questions.  The ambulance arrived and checked her over for me.  She was ok, though we couldn't let her sleep for a while.

If I had it to do over, I would have called the front desk to see if there was any first aid or medical personel on staff at the resort.  Like I said, I  panicked and  really didn't see any other option at the time.

Re: recent experiences  (United States)

I'm sorry that happened to Amy and I'm glad she was not badly hurt.  Once or twice in all our trips we've seen an ambulance at a resort. Thank God we never need one ourselves.
